A one-bedroom flat runs roughly $2,000 to $2,800, with anything on or near Seven Mile Beach at the top of that. Groceries are expensive enough that residents talk about it constantly, and eating out is priced for the finance industry. Where to Work in George Town
Connectivity here is excellent and not by accident: the islands host a large offshore banking, funds and insurance industry that could not operate otherwise. Fibre reaches essentially all of Grand Cayman, speeds are high and there are several coworking spaces around George Town and Camana Bay serving both the financial sector and the Global Citizen programme. Power is reliable and the grid was rebuilt to a higher standard after Hurricane Ivan in 2004. George Town runs on Eastern time without daylight saving, which keeps it aligned with New York in winter and an hour behind in summer.
Getting Around George Town
Grand Cayman is flat and long, and George Town, Seven Mile Beach and Camana Bay form a strip along the western side that most people move between daily. There is a minibus network that covers the main routes cheaply, and it works better than visitors expect, but most residents drive and driving is on the left. Cycling along the West Bay Road is feasible but the traffic is heavy at rush hour. Owen Roberts airport is minutes from town with direct flights to Miami, New York, Toronto and London. Little Cayman and Cayman Brac are short hops by light aircraft.

The Global Citizen Concierge Programme is a two-year remote work certificate for people employed outside the Cayman Islands, and its income requirement is the highest of any scheme in the region: roughly $100,000 a year for an individual, $150,000 for a couple and $180,000 for a family with children, plus an application fee of around $1,469. That threshold is the point, not an accident, and it excludes most of the people who look at it. Short visits are visa-free for most Western nationalities for up to six months, granted at the discretion of the immigration officer on arrival.
Best Time to Visit George Town
December to April is the dry season, with daytime temperatures around twenty-eight, low humidity and the calmest water for diving, and it is also the busiest and most expensive time. May to November is hotter and wetter, and the Atlantic hurricane season runs through it; Grand Cayman was devastated by Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and the memory shapes how the island builds and prepares. September and October are the quietest months, the cheapest, and the ones with the highest storm risk. Water temperature barely moves all year, which is the diving argument for coming outside the season.
Pros and Cons of George Town
Grand Cayman has Seven Mile Beach, wall diving off a drop-off that starts a few hundred metres offshore, the stingrays at the sandbar, and infrastructure to a standard almost nothing else in the Caribbean matches. There is no income tax and the professional network in finance is deep and international. Against that, the cost of living is extreme, the island is expensive in a way that is structural rather than seasonal, the Global Citizen income threshold rules out most applicants, and the character is closer to a well-run business district with beaches than to the Caribbean people imagine.
Who George Town Is For
George Town suits a high-earning remote worker, particularly anyone in funds, insurance or financial services, who wants excellent diving and infrastructure and can clear a six-figure income requirement. It works well for a two-year stay, which is what the certificate offers. It is a poor fit for anyone on an ordinary budget, anyone looking for a lively or local Caribbean culture, and anyone who wants somewhere cheap to sit with a laptop. The diving is genuinely world class and is the reason many people who came for the tax stay for longer.
