Where these came from

These come from 28 different sources, led by the Kassenärztliche Vereinigung Hamburg, Hamburg's statutory doctors' association (154), a German diplomatic mission (22) and Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (16). A consular list records the language because the mission publishes it for its own citizens, which is why Russian turns up in 25 countries rather than only where Russian is spoken.

276 of the 291 sit on an official list; the rest rest on the provider saying so or on a directory listing, and each card says which.

Where we have nothing

We list doctors in 363 further cities with no Russian speaker recorded, among them Hiroshima (315), Matsuyama (213), Kumamoto (212) and Okayama (195). That is a gap in what has been published, not proof that nobody there works in Russian.

Not always. Some sources name a practice whose staff include a Russian speaker rather than the named person, and each card quotes the wording its source used.
