Where these came from

These come from 14 different sources, led by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (39), the Kassenärztliche Vereinigung Hamburg, Hamburg's statutory doctors' association (36) and a German diplomatic mission (7). A consular list records the language because the mission publishes it for its own citizens, which is why Portuguese turns up in 13 countries rather than only where Portuguese is spoken.

Every one of these sits on an official list, published by a body with nothing to sell.

Where we have nothing

We list doctors in 373 further cities with no Portuguese speaker recorded, among them Sapporo (470), Hiroshima (315), Matsuyama (213) and Sendai (189). That is a gap in what has been published, not proof that nobody there works in Portuguese.

Questions

How many Portuguese-speaking doctors does this page list?
101, in 30 cities. That is the number whose working language we can trace to a published source.
Where are most of them?
Hamburg with 36, Nagoya with 10 and Tokyo with 9. Together that is 54% of the page.
Does a listing mean the doctor speaks Portuguese personally?
Not always. Some sources name a practice whose staff include a Portuguese speaker rather than the named person, and each card quotes the wording its source used.
